We were asked to design a basement waterproofing system for a new build basement within a domestic residence in Finchley. The basement had been constructed by a local main contractor with reinforced concrete. We were employed as sub-contractors within the main build package.
With any new build basement or below ground structure, the space should receive 2 separate forms of waterproofing to provide a belt and braces solution against ground water pressures. As the structure had already been created with a Type B waterproof concrete, this satisfied the requirement for a primary waterproofing barrier as a secondary system, we chose a Type C, Cavity Drain Membrane supplied by Oldroyd with ancillary drainage channels and 3no sump pump chambers which not only allowed complete water management of any ingressing ground water but also to external lightwells. The design and installation was carried out alongside the main contractor, an architect and engineering team complying with BS8102(2009)
